“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–it was peace.”
I used to think my grandmother had been crazy…sending, my mother holiday cards from the ‘dog’, Jasmine.
Always signing off with a paw print at Christmas time…
saying something similar to the following:
Merry Christmas and Peace to all,
Course, Jasmine had been a Collie. Obviously not capable of taking care of greetings…other than a, woof, bark and howl!
Always thinking to myself…
‘Those three, including the ‘dog’, are crazy. They sound like those freaky, over the top dog people…acting as though, it’s all real. Like somehow Jasmine is human! WTF!’
Currently, with grandmother gone. Jasmine long since over the rainbow bridge…I find myself saying the following to my eldest dog:
‘Where’s your brother?’ I hate it when you both run off like that! You need to keep a better eye on him. You know he doesn’t know his paw from his elbow!’
And, so it goes, I have become my grandmother…something I vowed to never do!
I confess…I have become the freaky dog lady. Often referring to her two dogs as siblings. Placing the most responsibility on the older of the two. Assuming like any parent does that the senior dog would be the following:
- Mature for their age
My youngest child, is spoiled, better than thou and displays very poor listening skills…As well as, addictive personality disorder.
So, it has happened, full fledged and proud, Dog Parent am I. Currently sending, Thank you, notes to friends and family for all the birthday wishes my youngest brat has received!
