Sista from Another Mother

What is going on in our world?  If I were traveling abroad…I would be ashamed and embarrassed to call myself, American.  Throughout history, it is apparent that diversity has had it’s adversity.  Yet, the year is 2018!  And, though we are a nation that has been built on assorted characters from a crayon box…Here we sit.  Pondering how adults can bully other adults.  How we can elect officials into office that have obvious trails of hatred…leading to their government paid position.

It is time to take a stance beyond refusing friend requests on facebook!

Kansas Republican vows to send ‘lesbian Indian’ Democrat back ‘to the reservation’

Kansas Republican official is under fire for a social media post in which he called a Democratic congressional candidate a “radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian” and predicted she would “be sent back packing to the reservation,” The Kansas City Star reported.

Michael Kalny, a Republican who holds the elected position of precinct committeeman in Kansas, was referring to Sharice Davids, an openly gay Native American lawyer running to unseat Republican Rep. Kevin Yoder. Davids is an amateur mixed martial arts fighter.

Kalny sent the language in a direct Facebook message to Anne Pritchett, president of the Johnson County Democratic Women’s north chapter.

“Little Ms. Pritchett – you and your comrades stealth attack on Yoder is going to blow up in your leftist face,” Kalny wrote in the Facebook message, according to a screenshot shared by Pritchett. “The REAL REPUBLICANS will remember what the scum DEMONRATS tried to do to Kavanaugh in November. Your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation.”

Pritchett told the Star she was “stunned” by the message. She said she thought Kalny sent it in response to comments she left on Yoder’s Facebook page, which she characterized as “hostile.” But the Star was unable to find any comments from Pritchett on Yoder’s page from the last two weeks.

“What is this lady trying to accomplish?” Kalny asked when contacted about the message by the Star in a phone call. He then told the paper that he had to speak to an attorney and hung up.

Davids’ office confirmed that the candidate had seen Kalny’s Facebook message.

“This message doesn’t represent Kansas values, and it doesn’t represent the values of the Republicans we know, many who support this campaign,” Davids said in a statement.

Kalny and Pritchett did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

C.J. Grover, a spokesman for Yoder said, “Kevin doesn’t believe this type of rhetoric is appropriate at all. It’s unacceptable.”

“These kind of nasty personal attacks are all too prevalent in politics these days, and it needs to stop,” Grover told the Star.

The Cook Political Report currently lists the race between Davids as Yoder as “lean Democrat.” A Davids victory would make her the first openly gay representative out of Kansas and the first female Native American member of Congress, the Star reported.

North Dakota, Native Americans and Voter ID

How far can Trump go?  Or, republicans for that matter. First immigrants, then to challenge birthright citizenship…now…Native Americans!  WTF?  There are natural American Citizens and they belong to the land.  Native Americans meaning…natal, original, born unto American heritage!

FORT BERTHOLD INDIAN RESERVATION, N.D. — For more than a year, Tiffany Hunts Along has lived in a cherrywood mobile home high on a ridge in western North Dakota, where she knows every jagged hilltop and every flat field. But when asked last week about her street address, she was stumped.

“Hold on,” said Hunts Along, 40, after reaching for her newly issued tribal identification card. “That’s right — I live on Medicine Otter Loop.”

When she, her husband and their young children — Native Americans belonging to the Three Affiliated Tribes, also known as the M.H.A. Nation — moved into the White Oak Park community, there was no street signage and no direct postal service to the home. She fetches the family’s mail from the nearest post office on the other side of town; her old tribal ID had listed her address as a post office box.

She never bothered to learn her street’s name — until now.

Hunts Along plans to cast a ballot in Tuesday’s midterm election, but a change made by North Dakota lawmakers has forced her and an estimated 5,000 tribal citizens who may have IDs with a post office box address to obtain either a new state-issued or tribal identification showing their street address in order to vote. The requirement — meant to prevent voter fraud, state officials say — went into effect in early October.

Nowhere in North Dakota is the registration process more complex — and urgent — than on reservations. Voter rights groups are scrambling to ensure residents understand why they might be turned away at the polls when they present an ID. Absentee ballots must list a home address as well, not a post office box.

The 11th-hour push comes amid a competitive U.S. Senate race in solidly red North Dakota, where the stakes are high: Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat, won by fewer than 3,000 votes in 2012. Native Americans, who largely vote Democratic, helped to tip that race in her favor, and she earned more than 80 percent of the vote in the state’s majority-Native counties. Recent polls, however, have given her GOP challenger, Rep. Kevin Cramer, a double-digit lead. His victory would boost the Republican Party’s chances of holding on to their slim majority in the Senate.

Jesse McCloud helps Whitney Agard Whitebull fill out voter ID information at his home on the Standing Rock Reservation in Fort Yates, N.D.

At least 1,360 people have gotten new IDs since the law was changed, according to tribal officials across the state, amid a major get-out-the-vote effort across North Dakota’s five reservations ahead of Election Day. To apply for new IDs, tribal citizens are digging through housing documents or calling their county or 911 services to nail down their address. When actual ones can’t be determined through the local government, tribes have been creating their own as a workaround.

Patty Ferguson-Bohnee, director of Arizona State University’s Indian Legal Clinic, said post offices are an integral part of Native Americans’ lives, and that she had never heard of a state reworking voting laws to target people who rely on P.O. boxes.

“This alleged voter fraud shouldn’t trump Native Americans’ fundamental rights,” Ferguson-Bohnee said. “This is a practice, a targeted practice to try and suppress the vote.”

‘ALL WE WANT IS OUR VOTE’

North Dakota is the only state in the nation that doesn’t require residents to register before voting — long held as a point of pride in this sparsely populated prairieland.

In previous elections, voters could use a variety of documents to prove they are state residents and have a current address.

For those lacking the appropriate ID, state law even allowed poll workers to vouch for a voter’s identity — which was helpful in rural communities, including on reservations, where people are more likely to know one another. Voters could also self-certify their ballot by signing an affidavit at the polling station.

But after Heitkamp won in 2012, the state’s Republican-led Legislature decided stricter rules were necessary in the event of voter fraud. Republican state Rep. Dan Ruby told The Nation that his party’s loss “shined a light” on the issue of strengthening voter ID registration and made it a priority, but denied any bill was introduced in order to suppress the Native vote.

As lawmakers rewrote the voter ID registration laws, several Native American voters who say they were disenfranchised in 2014 filed a lawsuit in 2016 claiming the changes were unconstitutional.

Gone, Gone, Gone…with Obamacare

ben franklin
If you need help.  Your hope dangling by a string.  I will share in your suffering to make you well.  -P.Phillips

Sometimes, it is less difficult to connect the dots to the actions we must take, as to not offend, someone.  As it does to, offend.  I believe it is a personal mythical goal of mine, to upset as many persons, as possible, before my time is through.  Either here on earth, or down in the, oh, so wonderful, balmy, weather, of hell.

At first, my inclination, with Obamacare, would take aim, with pen and paper and keyboard, at, republican woman.  I wanted to know such things as:

Don’t we share the same reproductive organs?

Is it okay for Sally to give birth to a child at the age of 12?  That is, knowing that, Sally had been raped by her father.  Her father, who is a well known, crack addict and I.V., drug user?

Should I, and many female artists I know, not be paid the same wage for the same job?

Should I have to worry, along with finances, heat, food on the table and taking care of my disabled spouse, about medical benefits, that are due to my wife?

And,

finally,

What gives?  I paid into the system for over 35 years.  Social Security is not a privilege!  It’s my money!  Isn’t it?

After much consideration,

I decided that narrowing my editorial to just ‘evangelic, over zealous, white, upper middle class, women, would be an injustice.

Is Obamacare flawed?

Yes, indeed.  As is most, historical, unprecedented, government outreaches, are!  Should we attempt to fix an ailing but still quite, prolific, an workable, united health care system?

Shit, yes, we should.

Without much thought, I can count on at least one hand, families, that have benefited from a Universal Health care.  Families that were given the shit end of the shitty stick, just by being born.  Couples, individuals, and alike, who by simple proxy and alignment of the stars, have yet to pass GO and collect $200.

This is neither their fault, nor the fault of their up bringing.  They live in houses where heat is purchased at the local convenience store, at $10, at shot.  They cloth their children with other’s passed by clothing.  They sell family heirlooms, collectibles, and what not, to get thru winter.  Only to see that the beat up old Cavalier will not pass inspection in the spring.

Okay, JEB, Mr. Chris (I need a diet) Christie and/or the a sundry of other republicans, what do you purpose we do?  Take that cancer treatment away?  Cancer treatment that a friend needed but most likely would have not received.  Had it not been for mandated health care.

These are obvious flaws in the republican’s attempt at making nice nice with those who HAVE!  Honestly, they could care less about the have not’s!

So, I will attempt to spin this another way:

Coming up on Groundhog Day, 2016, I hope to have achieved something, my mother never thought possible.  I will, with the grace of a Higher Power, have 15 years of sobriety.

To put it bluntly,

“I woke up one day.  Saw my fucked up looking shadow…and, knew, I needed to quit drinking!”

We are in the midst of not only an epidemic of violence that far out reaches anything I witnessed as a child in the 70’s.  We are also, knee deep and in the thick of it, becoming a nation dependent on Heroin.

Back in the day, you could check in and promise to…pay it forward or pay it back, bit by bit, at rehabs.  That is before, rehabs became the trending topic of conversation.

It should also be noted, that when attending meetings, N.A. and/or A.A., it is typical to see, a housewife, a business person, a public official, etc.

I’m not great at math.  That is why I went into writing and psychology.  But, with that said;  how the hell do we take care of the growing number of addicts?  Who pays for their room and board?  Rehab and mental health counseling does not grow on trees.  And, even if it did, someone would have to pay for those trees!

It is obvious that to combat the on going crisis of addiction in this country, we must provide, healthcare coverage.  It is also evident that the way to stop addiction is by education.  I do not see removal of a Universal Healthcare coverage…as alleviating that issue.

“My insurance will pay my primary care doctor more for a 10-minute appointment for the flu than it will allow my psychiatrist for an hour-long treatment session. For this reason, my own psychiatrist, along with many others, no longer accepts insurance.”

The situation is not good. In fact, it’s dire in a country where nearly 20 million Americans struggle with substance abuse and 42.5 million adults live with some form of mental illness, according to a Mental Health America report released in November 2014.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2015/07/25/and-then-he-decided-not-to-be/

This kind of situation should be rectified.  Not eliminated altogether.  In America, these days, it seems we provide the race, give you the sneakers in which to run in, but if you aren’t pass the halfway mark in record time…you become, eliminated.  In more ways than one.freedom

An unidentified Metro employee, who shall remain nameless, stated having heard the following statement:

The wacked out bitch was here for the National Nationalization of the Legalization of Marijuana March on the side steps of the stairs that lead up to the Museum of the Department of Agriculture building…She’d hit the pipe one too many times and now she’ll have to pay for it!

Also, in the not news today,

the Non Accredited Never Heard of ‘Em before, Institute of Mundane activities has suggested the following enterprises to reduce stress:

1. Participate in a weekend Scrapbook Convention

If the media were a circus...they'd be clowns by now!

2. Attend an A.A. conference

3. Become a member of the local Stamp Collector’s Guild

Lastly, of note…some music!

The commission of Honorary Pedophiles (the ones that seem like they could be, act like they could be and stand on street corners like they could be) has wired a list of contenders for their groups anthem!
